Effect and Its Mechanisms of Hydroxyl-functionalized Structural Nucleating Agents on Crystallization Behavior of Polylactic Acid

Abstract
The slow crystallization rate and low crystallinity of polylactic acid(PLA)have limited its industrial application efficiency and product performance.A series of nucleating agents(OTPTA)with different hydroxyl substitution positions(ortho,meta,para)were synthesized,and PLA-OTPTA composites were prepared using these nucleating agents to investigate the effect of hydroxyl substitution position on the crystallization behavior of PLA.Differential scanning calorimetry was employed to study the effect of OTPTA content on the crystallization behavior of PLA.The results indicated that tris(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide(4OTPTA),with a para hydroxyl group,exhibited the best nucleating effect.When the mass fraction of OTPTA was 1%,4OTPTA significantly increased the crystallization peak temperature and crystallinity of PLA to 104.4℃and 44.5%,respectively,and shortened the half-crystallization time at 135℃to 14.5 min.A stronger intermolecular hydrogen bond interaction existed between 4OTPTA and PLA,which significantly enhanced the interaction between PLA molecular chains and accelerated the formation of the 103 helical structure.关键词
