The Effect of Intercropping Corn and Cotton on Crop Growth and Yield

Abstract
Intercropping is an ancient agricultural planting model in the world.Reasonable intercropping can increase the photosynthetic efficiency of leaves,promote competition and cooperation between crops,and promote plant growth and development.This study set up three planting modes:maize cotton,monoculture maize,and monoculture cotton,and explored and analyzed the agronomic traits of plants,relative chlorophyll content in leaves,yield components,and root distribution characteristics on crop growth and yield formation.The final results indicate that the intercropping of corn and cotton planting mode can increase the height of corn plants by 5.41%to 46.29%,The range of SPAD value variation is-0.5%~26%.The RLD values of 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm increased by 51.37%~68.30%and 40.39%~88.14%,respectively;Intercropping reduces cotton plant height by 9.51%to 19.88%,The SPAD value decreased by 1.71%to 10.17%,while the RLD values increased by 29.11%to 40.89%and 49.08%to 96.32%for 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm,respectively.The land equivalent ratio of corn intercropping with cotton is LER=1.2802﹥1,with a yield increase rate of 28.02%.And it is concluded that the intercropping of corn and cotton can effectively improve crop yield in the field,but the specific main effects need further in-depth research.关键词
