Abstract

To address the insufficient protective capacity of corrugated beam guardrails caused by the increasing ve-hicle weight and increased operating speeds on expressways,the structural optimization and simulation validation of corrugated beam guardrails is studied for increased protective performance.Through a systematic analysis of the ef-fects of mechanical properties and structural geometric parameters of guardrails on their protective performance,the key parameters such as wave height,wave length,and plate thickness are identified.A parametric model was estab-lished for optimization design,and the following optimization scheme was proposed:the corrugated beam plate is made of Q420 steel with parameters of wave height of 100 mm,wave length of 200 mm,plate thickness of 3.0 mm,and radius of curvature ≥ 18 mm;The columns are fabricated from 6082-T6 aluminum alloy with a spacing of 2.5 m and an embedding depth of 1.4 m.Explicit dynamic simulations are conducted by LS-DYNA software to verify the effectiveness of the optimized scheme under three typical collision conditions of 80,100,120 km/h.The results in-dicate that the peak centroid acceleration of the vehicle is below the limit of 20 g,the maximum impact force of the corrugated beam guardrail is 300 kN,and the energy absorption capacity increases with the collision speed.All key indicators meet the requirements of relevant specifications.The research results can provide a technical route refer-ence for the study of new corrugated beam guardrail schemes.
