Abstract

Monitoring reservoir water level changes based on multi-source remote sensing data aligns with the advancement of"smart water conservancy",which can provide a technical support for water resources supervision.Taking Wuqiangxi Reservoir,the second largest reservoir in Hunan Province,as a case study,this research integrated Sentinel-3A and ICESat-2 satellite altimetry data to construct a water level time series from 2016 to 2022.Accuracy assessment was performed based on measured water levels dur-ing 2017-2022,and the characteristics of water level variations were analyzed based on meteorological data.Results indicated a strong correlation between the altimetric water levels and the measured data,with the coefficient of determination reaching 0.99,the correlation coefficient 1.00,the root mean squared error 0.29 m,and the mean absolute error 0.18 m.From 2016 to 2022,the reservoir water level underwent significant seasonal changes,which continuously decreased from February to June,and rose back again rapidly from June to August annually.The water level either lagged behind changes in precipi-tation or temperature by approximately 4 months,or responded in advance to precipitation by about 6 months and to temperature by about 2 months.Satellite altimetry data effectively captured the dynamic process of water level fluctuations,highlighting the reservoir's active regulatory role in flood control and drought relief.
