Abstract

Seepage-dissolution develops in roller compacted concrete(RCC)dams during long-term service and impacts the structural performance overtime.To investigate its evolutionary characteristics and influencing mechanism,we established a seepage-dissolution coupling model in COMSOL,considering the non-equilibrium dissolution process of solid-phase calcium driven by seepage flow.The model was then verified by experimental results.To estimate the safe dam service life accurately,we conducted nu-merical simulations on an actual RCC dam project,and proposed a criterion that requires the anti-sliding stability factor of safety to decrease to the code-specified limit value(FOS=3.0).The results indicate that seepage-dissolution is mainly concentrated in the upstream conventional concrete face slab,dam foundation base,and anti-seepage curtain.The drainage pipes and galleries installed inside the dam ef-fectively inhibit the dissolution development of internal RCC by reducing seepage water pressure.During the service period,the dissolution amount of solid-phase calcium increases exponentially with time,lead-ing to significant deterioration of porosity,permeability coefficient,and diffusion coefficient.This further results in a reduction in the dam's self-weight,an increase in total seepage discharge,and a rise in the uplift pressure of the dam foundation.Throughout the seepage-induced dissolution process,the anti-slid-ing stability factor of safety of the RCC dam exhibits an exponential decay.Based on this,the safe dam service life can be quantitatively evaluated,providing a theoretical basis and technical support for the long-term safe operation and life-cycle management of high dams.
