Comparative study on root segment cutting of three hybrid herbaceous peony cultivars

Abstract
[Objective]Herbaceous peony holds significant medicinal and ornamental value,yet its propaga-tion efficiency remains low.The fleshy root segments,one of the most accessible organs of herbaceous peony possess the ability to form adventitious buds.This study aimed to investigate the differences in root segment cut-tings among different cultivars and identify optimal treatments,to provide references for propagation practices.[Method]Using root segments from various herbaceous peony cultivars as the materials,the morphological,his-tological,and physiological observations were conducted to explore differences in cutting propagation efficiency and underlying physiological mechanisms.[Result]Root segments of three herbaceous peonies could differentiate adventitious buds and adventitious roots.Treatment with 6-benzylaminopurine significantly increased shooting rate and rooting rate,with optimal effects varying by cultivars.'Supreme Coral'showed the best rooting perfor-mance(64.86%)under 20 mg·L⁻1(10 min)treatment,while'Coral Sunset'achieved the highest bud formation rate(68.57%)under 60 mg·L⁻1(5 min)treatment.6-BA treatment enhanced nutrient accumulation,supply capaci-ty,and antioxidant enzyme activity in root segments,facilitating adventitious bud and root differentiation.Corre-lation analysis of morphological and photosynthetic parameters indicated an antagonistic relationship between adventitious bud and root formation.[Conclusion]Root cuttings can effectively increase the number of herba-ceous peony seedlings.6-BA significantly promotes the formation and subsequent development of adventitious buds and roots in fleshy root segments,providing both theoretical basis and practical guidance for plant root cut-ting propagation.关键词
