Abstract

OBJECTIVE Compare the localization of low-frequency and high-frequency signals by the human ear in individuals with normal hearing,so as to provide a reference for the clinical evaluation of sound source localization ability.METHODS In both 360°and 180°horizontal sound fields,normal-hearing adults implemented sound localization tests using 0.5 kHz and 3 kHz FM tones,respectively.The root mean square(RMS)errors and accuracy rate of responses were calculated and compared.RESULTS In the 360°field,there was no statistically significant difference in the RMS errors and accuracy rates between 0.5 kHz and 3 kHz for the subjects in the full field.Statistics were conducted on the four fields of front,back,left,and right,the RMS error at 0.5 kHz was significantly lower than at 3 kHz in the left and right fields,and the accuracy at 0.5 kHz was significantly higher than that at 3 kHz in the right field.After the mirror processing,the RMS error at 0.5 kHz was significantly lower than at 3 kHz in the full field,left field,and right field.In the 180°field,the RMS at 0.5 kHz was significantly lower than at 3 kHz,and the accuracy rate was significantly higher than that at 3 kHz.CONCLUSION There is a significant difference in the sound localization ability between low-frequency sound and high-frequency sound,and the sound localization accuracy of low-frequency sound is better than that of high-frequency sound.
