Abstract

In foam flotation,the flotation collector selectively hydrophobicates the target mineral particles through the interaction between the active groups in the molecule and the metal atoms on the mineral surface,which plays a decisive role in the flotation efficiency.In order to develop high-efficiency flotation collectors and reveal their hydro-phobic mechanism,a series of bifunctional surfactants,such as dithiourea,dithiocarbamate,thiourea-thiocarbamate,Gemini cation,mercapto-oxime compound,amide-hydroxamic acid/carboxylic acid,were designed and synthesized.In situ scanning electrochemical microscopy(SECM)and atomic force microscopy(AFM)were used to analyze the electrochemical properties and apparent morphology changes of mineral surface before and after collector adsorption at micro/nano scale.The changes of electron conduction ability and adhesion force of mineral surface were calculated by theoretical fitting.The interaction between collector and minerals was characterized by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry(ToF-SIMS)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and the adsorption configuration model was established.The adsorption behavior and hydrophobic mechanism of different bifunctional collectors on the mineral surface were revealed,and the variation law of their electron conduction ability and adhesion force was clari-fied.The possible adsorption configuration was proposed,and the essence of foam flotation was clarified from the micro level.The design of new bifunctional surfactants and the study of their interaction mechanism with minerals can provide a theoretical reference for the development of efficient flotation collectors.
