The impact of risk shock on farmers' farmland quality protection behavior

Abstract
In the context of the normalization of agricultural risks,the impact of risk shocks affects the behavior of farmers in protecting the quality farmland quality by altering their risk perception and resource allocation decisions.We use the survey data of farmers in Hubei Province to examine the impact of risk shocks on farmers' behavior of farmland quality protection from an integrated perspective of internal social embedding and external opportunity supply.The study finds:1)Health,natural,and market risk shocks significantly and negatively impact farmers' behavior of farmland quality protection.2)Risk shocks increase farmers' risk aversion,thereby inhibiting their behavior of farmland quality protection.This negative impact is more pronounced for mixed-employment farmers,older-generation farmers,low-income households,and small-scale farmers.3)Relationship embedding significantly mitigates the negative impact of risk shocks on farmers' behavior of farmland quality protection,but the mitigating effect of structural embedding is not significant.4)Financial opportunities and information opportunities significantly mitigate the negative impact of risk shocks on farmers' behavior of farmland quality protection,while employment opportunities and training opportunities significantly exacerbate this negative impact.Therefore,it is necessary to strengthen the risk buffer mechanism,implement differentiated guiding strategies,leverage the risk-sharing function of informal institutions,and build a complete social support system,to effectively stimulate farmers' willingness and actions to participate in the farmland quality protection.关键词
