Abstract

To explore the differences in yield and nitrogen efficiency among wheat near-isogenic lines(NILs)with similar genetic backgrounds under low-nitrogen conditions,six pairs of wheat NILs with consistent genetic backgrounds were used as experimental materials under nitrogen-free pot culture conditions.The research focused on differences in yield and its components,dry matter accumulation and distribution at maturity,nitrogen accumulation and distribution,and post-flowering nitrogen metabolism-related genes.The results showed that there were significant differences in single-plant yield and grain nitrogen use efficiency between the spotless and spotted genotypes of each NIL.The wheat NILs with similar genetic backgrounds were classified into two types:spotted nitrogen-efficient populations(NIL1,NIL3,NIL6)and spotless nitrogen-efficient populations(NIL2,NIL4,NIL5).Both types of nitrogen-efficient genotypes showed higher 1000-grain weight,above-ground dry matter mass,and plant nitrogen accumulation at maturity.Additionally,the expression levels of nitrogen utilization-related genes(TaNR,TaNiR,TaGS1)in the leaves of wheat NILs were significantly upregulated in the efficient genotypes of both types of nitrogen-efficient populations,indicating that these genes are closely related to the genotype differences in nitrogen efficiency of wheat.
