Abstract

This study screened three types of biostimulants—algal oligosaccharides,polyaspartic acid,and chitosan oligosaccharides(COS)—for direct antibacterial activity against Pectobacterium brasiliense,the causal agent of potato soft rot.COS exhibited the most potent inhibitory effect.Low molecular weight(1200 Da)polyaspartic acid also demonstrated modest antibacterial activity,with a relative inhibition rate of 16.50%,whereas algal oligosaccharides showed no efficacy.The antibacterial activity of COS was strongly correlated with its molecular weight(degree of polymerization),with medium-and low-molecular-weight variants being more effective.Both 2000 Da and 700 Da COS achieved a 100%relative inhibition rate against P.brasiliense at field-equivalent application rates of 100 g/mu and 132 g/mu,respectively.The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)and minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC)were determined to be 6.25 mg/mL and 12.5 mg/mL,respectively.COS also showed promising combined effects with common antibacterial agents.The fractional inhibitory concentration index(FICI)for 2000 Da COS in combination with chemical bactericides benzisothiazolinone,bronopol,and Kocide 3000(copper hydroxide)was 1.0,0.75,and 0.75,respectively,all indicating an additive effect.Similarly,its combination with the microbial-derived bactericide kasug amycin resulted in an FICI of 1.0,also denoting additivity.In contrast,the combination with the plant-derived bactericide carvacrol yielded an FICI of 1.5,suggesting an indifferent effect.This study provides a scientific basis for the com-bined use of biostimulants and bactericides,supporting the development of integrated green control strategies aimed at reducing chemical pesticide application while enhancing efficacy.
