Regulation of delayed establishment and delayed tillering on reproductive growth of tillers in Chloris virgata population on the Songnen Plain,China

Abstract
Reproductive regulation is one of the main ways for plant populations,especially widespread species,to cope with changing environments,and holds significant theoretical importance for understanding plant adaptation and evolution.The reproductive process of bunchgrass is comprehensively regulated by the growth time of both the genets and tillering ramets,yet the specific regulatory process and mechanisms remain unclear.Taking the globally widespread bunchgrass feather fingergrass(Chloris virgata)from the Songnen Plain as an object,this study analyzed the effects of delayed establishment and delayed tillering on the reproductive growth characteristics of tillering ramets.As the delayed sowing time increases,the biomass of the reproductive tillering ramets of feather fingergrass increases exponentially,while the tiller height,inflorescence length,inflorescence biomass,and seed number all increase linearly.However,as the delayed tillering time increases,the main quantitative characteristics all decrease exponentially,but the seed setting rate and thousand seed weight mostly fluctuate around the average value under delayed sowing time and delayed tillering conditions without obvious regular patterns.The ecological adaptation characteristics of feather fingergrass discovered in this study include:1)responding to the adverse effects of delayed establishment by advancing into the reproductive stage;2)seed size and seed setting rate are conservative,while quantitative traits exhibit significant variation,serving as the main regulatory methods;3)the more unfavorable the growth conditions,the greater the increase in reproductive allocation.Reproductive regulation through early reproduction and increased reproductive investment is one of the adaptive strategies employed by feather fingergrass to cope with unfavorable environments,carrying significant adaptive and evolutionary importance.关键词
