Traditional Chinese Medicine Prevention and Treatment Strategies for Sarcopenia and Its Comorbidities and Future Research Directions

Abstract
Sarcopenia is a systemic disease characterized by progressive declines in skeletal muscle mass,strength,and function,and is closely associated with adverse outcomes such as falls,fractures,functional impairment,and mortality.Its prevalence increa-ses significantly in the elderly and is often comorbid with multiple chronic diseases,including osteoporosis,diabetes,cardiovascular disease,and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,forming a complex pathophysiological network.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)plays a unique role in the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia and its comorbidities.Guided by theories such as"trea-ting different diseases with the same method"and"preventive treatment",therapeutic approaches include regulating the spleen and stomach,replenishing Qi and nourishing blood,and strengthening tendons and bones.Non-pharmacological therapies,such as acu-puncture,moxibustion,and traditional Chinese exercise therapy,are applied to improve muscle function and increase muscle mass.Future research should integrate the characteristics of the four diagnostic methods with modern medical testing to establish diagnos-tic standards combining TCM and Western medicine,thereby promoting individualized treatment.It should also study the evolution of syndromes,explore optimal intervention timing and strategies,and advance precision treatment with TCM.Establishing standard-ized animal models to simulate sarcopenia and its comorbidities can provide a platform for evaluating the efficacy of TCM.In addi-tion,multi-omics technologies can be employed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of sarcopenia comorbidities,identify key reg-ulatory nodes,and provide a basis for TCM interventions.关键词
