Spatiotemporal Trade-offs,Synergistic Relationships and Functional Zoning of Ecosystem Services in Taihu Lake Basin

Abstract
In this study,we explored the spatio-temporal trade-offs,synergistic relationships and func-tional zoning of ecosystem services in the Taihu Lake basin.Our aim was to provide a reference for zon-ing management of ecological spaces and sustainable economic and social development within the water-shed.The InVEST model was used to quantitatively evaluate the spatiotemporal evolution of four ecosys-tem services from 2010 to 2023:carbon storage,water yield,habitat quality,and soil conservation.The spatiotemporal trade-offs and synergistic relationships among these services were revealed by integrating Pearson correlation analysis and geographically weighted regressions.Ecosystem service clusters were identified using the self-organizing map approach to delineate ecological function zones in the watershed.Results show that:(1)The overall land use pattern in Taihu Lake basin was stable from 2010 to 2023,with dominant land use types including cultivated land,construction land and surface water.Among them,construction land increased significantly from 7 398.69 km2 in 2010 to 10 066.95 km2 in 2023,a net in-crease of 2 668.26 km2.This expansion primarily came from forest land(30.67 km²)and surface water(103.49 km2).(2)The overall synergistic relationship between carbon storage,habitat quality and soil con-servation was stable.The correlation coefficient(r)between carbon storage and soil conservation ranged from 0.53 to 0.65,while that between habitat quality and soil conservation ranged from 0.60 to 0.82.Car-bon storage and habitat quality also exhibited a relatively stable synergistic relationship from 2010 to 2020(r=0.33 to 0.34)but shifted to a slight trade-off relationship in 2023(r=-0.17).In contrast,water yield demonstrated a trade-off relationship with habitat quality,and this trade-off relationship intensified in 2023(r=-0.40).(3)There were significant spatial differences in the trade-offs and synergistic relation-ships of ecosystem services in Taihu Lake basin.The southwest hilly forest region predominantly exhibit-ed synergistic relationships,whereas the relatively flat urban region was primarily characterized by trade-offs.Furthermore,the trade-off relationships in the central and eastern areas strengthened over time.(4)The structure of ecological service clusters was clear and categorized into four distinct zones:a com-pound equilibrium area(10.08%),a habitat maintenance area(7.73%),an ecological conservation area(58.01%)and an ecological restoration area(24.18%),and the ecological service characteristics of differ-ent zones varied significantly.关键词
