Abstract

To study the impact of pedestrians'arms on thoracic injuries in vehicle-pedestrian collisions,this study uses LS-DYNA to conduct collision simulations involving three pedestrian human body model(HBM)configurations(TB024 posture、SAE posture and an armless model)and two generic vehicle models(a sedan and an SUV).A comparative analysis was performed on the thoracic kinematic response,deflection,and rib strain of pedestrians with and without arms.The simulation results show that,compared with the armless condition,the time of thoracic impact against the hood is delayed by 15 ms for both the sedan and SUV.Regarding thoracic deflection,the presence of arms significantly increased the deflection of the anterior side of the upper thorax on the collision side.Specifically,the deflection at the RF45 measurement points of Chest Bands 2 and 3 increased by 52.6%and 53.1%,respectively.Meanwhile,the arms also increased strain near the spine on the posterior impact side of the 3rd to 5th ribs,with the maximum rib strain increasing by 308.51%compared with the armless pedestrian.This study quantifies the influence of pedestrian arms on thoracic injuries,providing a scientific basis for optimizing protective measures and evaluation tools for pedestrian chest injury mitigation.
