Comparative Study on the Biofidelity of Test Dummies Under Multi-Angle Far-Side Impact Conditions

Abstract
This study investigates the biomechanical response differences between the WorldSID and THOR dummies under far-side impact conditions at various angles and evaluates their engineering applicability and biofidelity.Finite element simulations were conducted to model multiple oblique far-side impact scenarios,ranging from 0°(frontal)to 90°(pure lateral).The high-fidelity THUMS human model served as the benchmark for comparing the acceleration responses of the head and chest(T1,T8,T12)of both dummies,with biofidelity quantitatively assessed using the Pearson correlation coefficient.The results demonstrate that dummy applicability strongly depends on impact angle and body region.Specifically,the THOR dummy shows higher correlation with THUMS in head and lower chest(T8,T12)responses under frontal(0°)and small-angle oblique(0°~45°)impacts.In contrast,the WorldSID dummy exhibits superior biofidelity in the head and upper chest(T1)under far-side impact conditions(30°~90°),along with better lower chest responses at large impact angles(60°~90°).This study provides critical data and theoretical support for selecting appropriate dummy models in virtual vehicle safety evaluations across different collision scenarios.关键词
