Impact of construction of new-type infrastructure on urban economic resilience

Abstract
Under the external environment of tense international situations and slow economic recovery,China has encountered challenges such as weak domestic effective demand and increased risks in key areas.These uncertainties not only test the adaptability of the economic system,but also place greater demands for its sustainable development.It is of great significance to enhance the risk resistance and stability of the economic system,that is,economic resilience.As an efficient,intelligent,and sustainable social support system,the new-type infrastructure serves as an important way to enhance urban economic resilience.Based on the urban panel data from 2011 to 2021,this paper empirically examines the direct effects,mechanisms,and spatial spillover effects of the construction of new-type infrastructure on urban economic resilience by using the two-way fixed effects model,the chain mediation effect model,and the spatial econometric model.The results show that the construction of new-type infrastructure significantly enhances urban economic resilience,and this result holds across robustness tests.Mechanism tests show that the construction of new-type infrastructure indirectly plays an enabling role by strengthening innovation capabilities and accelerating digital transformation,and there is a chain mediation effect whereby innovation capability improvement promotes digital transformation,which in turn boosts urban economic resilience.Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the impact of construction of new-type infrastructure on economic resilience is the most pronounced in the eastern cities,followed by western cities,while the impact is least evident in central cities.In addition,the results of spatial econometric regression show that the construction of new-type infrastructure exhibits a significant positive spatial spillover effect on urban economic resilience.From the perspective of promoting innovation and digital transformation,this paper analyzes and verifies the specific mechanisms and effects through which the construction of new-type infrastructure enhances urban economic resilience,enriching the relevant research on urban economic resilience.Based on these findings,this paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to improve urban economic resilience,including strengthening support for the construction of new-type infrastructure,stimulating innovation vitality,facilitating digital transformation,improving the spatial layout of and promoting regional coordination in the construction of new-type infrastructure,and giving full play to the spillover effect of new-type infrastructure.关键词
