Abstract
Objectives:To gain insight into the experience of intimate partner violence(IPV)among infertile patients through a phenomenological research approach,with a view to reducing the incidence of IPV and the harm it causes to infertile patients.
Methods:A purposive sampling method was used to conduct semi-structured interviews with 12 infertility patients who experienced IPV and were treated at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from April to July 2024,focusing on the forms of IPV experienced by infertility patients,the sources of IPV,and the patients' perceptions of and ways of coping with IPV.The Colaizzzi's phenomenological 7-step analysis was used to analyse the data and extract themes.
Results:Infertility patients perceived IPV as stemming from multifaceted factors,ranked in descending order as life stress(66.7％,8/12),family of origin(58.3％,7/12)and social environment(33.3％,4/12).IPV manifestations encompassed psychological violence(66.7％,8/12)such as quarrelling and cold wars,and physical violence(50.0％,6/12)such as dropping things,pushing and hitting.Half of patients(6/12)thought that IPV had a serious impact on them,but 33.3％(4/12)patients thought it was an inevitable and normal phenomenon between couples.Infertile patients' responses to IPV mainly consisted of resistance(7/12),tolerance(7/12),reflection(2/12)and confabulation(6/12).
Conclusions:IPV in infertility patients originated from a number of sources.Psychological violence such as quarrelling and cold wars was the main forms of IPV.Patients' perceptions of IPV were inconsistent,and they mainly used methods such as defiance,tolerance,reflection,and confabulation to cope with IPV.关键词
