Abstract

Yield reduction in succeeding crops caused by buckwheat cultivation severely restricts the industrial development of buckwheat,while traditional fertilization methods have shown limited effec-tiveness.This study investigated the effects and underlying mechanisms of a traditional Chinese medi-cine(TCM)-based fertilizer in alleviating the growth inhibition of succeeding crops induced by buck-wheat cultivation through controlled pot experiments with maize.The biological and physiological pa-rameters of maize plants grown in soils previously cultivated with buckwheat(KQ)or left uncultivat-ed(control,CK)were compared to confirm the growth inhibition effects.Further,maize seedling performance,rhizosphere microbial community structure,network patterns,and predicted functions in response to the application of the TCM-based fertilizer in KQ soil(ZYKQ)were analyzed to uncov-er the mitigating effects and mechanisms on yield reduction in succeeding crops.The results showed that:(1)Maize plants grown in KQ soil exhibited 8.8%-35.3%reductions in plant height,dry weight,root morphology,and leaf chlorophyll content compared to those in CK soil,and these plant parameters improved by 14.7%-36.8%relative to KQ.(2)ZYKQ treatment increased rhizosphere bacterial α-diversity(Chao1 index)by 6.7%,promoted the enrichment of beneficial bacteria(e.g.,Sphingomonas),suppressed pathogenic fungi(e.g.,Fusarium),and enhanced bacterial network modularity and nutrient cycling functions,particularly carbohydrate metabolism.In conclusion,the TCM-based fertilizer effectively mitigates the growth inhibition of succeeding maize crops caused by buckwheat cultivation by enhancing rhizosphere microbial diversity and optimizing community struc-ture and function.These findings highlight the application potential of TCM agriculture technology for microecological soil remediation and offer a novel ecological regulation strategy to overcome the barriers to succeeding crop growth after buckwheat cultivation.
