Abstract

This study utilizes hailfall records(2010-2023)from Anshun City and C-band radar data from Guiyang to investigate the radar parameters of hail events.Correlation analysis and boxplot anal-ysis were applied to explore the relationships between hail occurrence and radar-derived variables.Re-sults indicate that among all hail-producing convective cells in Anshun,ordinary cells account for the highest proportion(54.2%),followed by multicells(38.5%),while supercells and linear storms repre-sent 3.1%and 4.2%,respectively.Within one hour prior to hail occurrence,the 50 dBZ and 45 dBZ echo top heights,as well as the overall echo top height,show a gradual upward trend.The median 50 dBZ echo top height ranges from 7.0 to 7.7 km,with the 75th percentile between 8.3 and 9.4 km.The median vertically integrated liquid values range from 24.6 to 35.1 g·m-3,and the 75th percentile from 42.7 to 51.7 g·m-3.Significant correlations are found between hail diameter and both the 50 dBZ echo top height and vertically integrated liquid,which exhibit stronger relationships than the 45 dBZ echo top height and the overall echo top height.These parameters can serve as primary indicators for short-term hail nowcasting in Anshun City.
