Abstract

A new type of beam-column joints was developed to address the connection issue between steel-reinforced concrete-filled corrugated tubular columns and steel beams.Through two scaled model experi-ments,the failure modes and hysteresis characteristics of this new joint were analyzed.The corresponding fi-nite element(FE)models were established and validated.The effects of the thicknesses of the arc plates and the size and thicknesses of the inner steel ring plates on the failure mode and shear bearing capacity were clari-fied.Based on the results of theoretical and FE results,a calculation method for the shear bearing capacity of the new joint was proposed.The research results indicate that the proposed new joint has clear force transmis-sion,reliable bearing capacity,and competitive seismic performance.To prevent local tearing of the weld seam and local buckling,the thicknesses of the external ring plates should be the same as that of the flange of the steel beams,and the diameter-to-thickness ratios of the arc steel plates should be no more than 100.The opening radius of the inner ring plates should be less than 40%of the cross-sectional radius.The calculation method of the shear bearing capacity of the new joint can refer to that of steel tube confined steel-reinforced concrete.
