Evidence summary on prevention and management of venous thromboembolism in adult sepsis patients

Abstract
Objective:Adult sepsis patients have a significantly increased risk of venous thromboembolism due to factors such as systemic inflammatory response activation and hemodynamic instability,which are closely related to poor prognosis.Currently,there is a lack of specific,standardized evidence-based guidelines for thrombosis prevention in this population.This study aims to systematically review,analyze,and summarize the best evidence on venous thromboembolism prevention and management in adult sepsis patients to provide a basis for clinical nursing practice. Methods:A computer-based literature search was conducted in databases including UpToDate,Joanna Briggs Institute Evidence-Based Health Care Center,National Institute for Health and Care Excellence,International Guidelines Collaboration,Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network,National Guidelines Clearinghouse,Ontario Nurses'Association,World Health Organization network,PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,Embase,CINAHL,ClinicalTrials.gov,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang Database,VIP Database,China Biomedical Literature Database,and Yimaitong.The search period was from the creation of these databases until May 2025.Literature was screened based on inclusion and exclusion criteria,quality assessed,and relevant evidence extracted and summarized. Results:A total of 18 articles were included,consisting of 1 clinical decision,4 guidelines,5 expert consensus papers,1 systematic review,3 meta-analyses,and 4 randomized controlled trials.A total of 34 best evidence points were extracted,classified,and summarized across 6 themes:screening and assessment,basic prevention,pharmacological prevention,mechanical prevention,quality control,and health education. Conclusion:This study summarizes the best evidence for venous thromboembolism prevention and management in adult sepsis patients.It is recommended that clinical healthcare providers develop and implement multi-dimensional,individualized venous thromboembolism prevention and management plans based on the specific condition of the patient,to improve prognosis and enhance nursing quality.关键词
