On Hedda's Neurotic Personality in Ibsen's Hedda Gabler

摘要
Abstract
Hedda is a controversial tragic female character portrayed by Norwegian playwright Ibsen in his play Hedda Gabler.There are various explanations in the academic community regarding the causes of Hedda's tragic life,each with its own good rea-sons.The neurotic personality theory of German American psychoanalyst Karen Horney offers a new approach to reinterpret this classic tragedy.Textual analysis shows that Hedda has prominent aggressive neurotic personality traits.Neurotic personality is the direct cause of Hedda's personal tragedy,and the morbid original family environment and patriarchal social environment are the root causes of her personal tragedy.By depicting such a female character,Ibsen demonstrates the harm of a pathological family and social environment to women,and expresses his thoughts on the plight of women's existence and his humanistic concern for them.关键词
