Cognitive Dilemmas and Science Communication Strategies of Nuclear Energy from a Comparative Perspective

摘要

Abstract

In recent years,climate change and energy issues have made nuclear energy increasingly prominent.More and more countries are making long-term arrangements for the implementation of nuclear energy projects and research on nuclear fusion and small reactor technologies,including even countries that once gave up nuclear energy.However,public misperceptions of nuclear energy have remained a critical factor constraining its development since the 20th century.One of the causes lies in the lack or misuse of com-parative perspective in the cognitive process.This article conducts comparative studies in three categories to reveal impacts of environ-mental communication mechanism,cognitive psychology,military and political factors:(1)Comparisons of overall health risks between nuclear energy and other energy sources;(2)Comparisons of public communication differences between nuclear accidents and other industrial incidents;(3)Comparisons of nuclear technology's applications in civilian versus military domains.Comparisons reveal that the lack of a macro-level awareness of risk,misalignment in the understanding of civilian and military domains,and information distortion in media communication are key contributors to the negative public image of nuclear energy.These findings offer important implications for science communication,particularly regarding the focus of content and the modes of presentation.
