Analysis of installation failure causes of automobile suspension shock absorber piston rod

Abstract
To address the fracture issue of the piston rod during a 30 N·m static torsion strength test,a combined approach of fracture surface electron microscope observation and finite element simulation was adopted for analysis.The results indicated that the fracture occurred at the internal hexagonal hole,and the fracture surface exhibited brittle fracture characteristics such as cleavage steps and river patterns,with no cracks,cavities,or inclusions detected.Simulation results revealed the presence of stress concentration at this location,where the maximum equivalent stress reached 678.14 MPa,exceeding the yield strength of the base material(660 MPa).Based on comprehensive analysis,the primary cause of failure was determined to be overload fracture induced by unreasonable structural design.This study provides a theoretical basis for the structural optimization of the piston rod.关键词
