Optimal coupling patterns of water and nitrogen under drip irrigation for grain Sorghum in western Ji-lin Province

摘要

Abstract

[Objective]To address the issues of extensive water and fertilizer management in sorghum cultivation in western Jilin Province,this study investigated the effects of different water-nitrogen coupling patterns on the growth and economic benefits of grain sorghum.The objective was to provide technical support and a theoretical basis for promoting sorghum cultivation and de-veloping marginal,barren soils.[Methods]Field experiments were conducted in Tongyu County,Baicheng City,Western Jilin Province,using the cultivar'Jiza 229'.Based on a randomized block design,three drip irrigation levels,500 m3/hm2(W1),1000 m3/hm2(W2),and 1500 m3/hm2(W3),,and four nitrogen levels,0 kg/hm2(N0),100 kg/hm2(N1),200 kg/hm2(N2),and 300 kg/hm2(N3),were applied,resulting in 12 water-nitrogen combinations.The effects of different combinations on sorghum growth,yield,water and fertilizer use efficiency and economic benefits were analyzed.[Results]As irrigation vol-ume increased,sorghum plant height,stem diameter,and dry matter accumulation per plant followed a trend of initially increas-ing and then decreasing.Similarly,with increasing nitrogen application,plant height rose slightly,while stem diameter and dry matter accumulation showed a parabolic trend(increasing then decreasing).The W2N2 treatment yielded the highest stem di-ameter and dry matter accumulation.Regarding yield components,irrigation levels had no significant effect on panicle number.However,1000-grain weight and total yield first increased and then decreased,while grain weight per panicle showed a continu-ous upward trend.Nitrogen application followed a similar parabolic relationship with 1000-grain weight,grain weight per pani-cle,and yield.The average yield of W2N2 was the highest(9795 kg/hm2)exceeding the lowest yield treatment by 27.75%.Yield differences between years were significant(P<0.01).At identical irrigation levels,nitrogen application increased,while water use efficiency followed an initial increase followed by a decrease.W2N1 achieved the highest nitrogen partial productivity(86.41)and agronomic efficiency(17.04),while W1N2 achieved the highest water use efficiency(46.86 kg/m3).Path anal-ysis indicated that the positive direct effect of grain weight per panicle on yield was significantly higher than other indicators.Demonstration plots using the optimal water and fertilizer ratio showed an average yield increase of 1647 kg/hm2,an income in-creased of 5270.4 yuan/hm2,and a cost-benefit efficiency improvement of 22.55%compared to conventional cultivation.[Con-clusion]Considering yield,resource efficiency,and economic factors,the optimal management model for sorghum under mulched drip irrigation in Western Jilin Province consists of an irrigation volume of 1000 m3/hm2 and a nitrogen rate of 200 kg/hm2.
