Advances in the Application of Houttuynia cordata and Its Extracts in Livestock and Poultry Diets
摘要
Abstract
Houttuynia cordata(HC)has been used as a medicinal herb in traditional Chinese medicine for a long time.The roots and stems of HC possess anti-inflammatory,antibacterial,diuretic,antioxidant,and anticancer properties,which might be attributed to the high concentrations of alkaloids,essential oils,phenolic acids,and flavonoids within HC.Since the prohibition of the usage of antibiotics in animal feed in China,HC and its extracts have gained significant attention as potential antibiotic alternatives.Recently,the beneficial effects of HC and its extracts on growth and health of livestock and poultry has been intensively studied.However,the active components composition,the unclear mechanisms of biological function,and potential adoption in animal diets have not been fully revealed.Therefore,this review aims to summarize the biological activities of HC and its extracts,as well as its applications and possible mechanisms in animal diets.This review could provide a theoretical basis and reference for the efficient and rational utilization of HC and its extracts in animal diets.关键词
