Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate fractional exhaled nitric oxide(FeNO)and nasal nitric oxide(FnNO)in patients with UACS and correlation with cough.METHODS Seventy-two UACS patients with nasal symptoms who were divided into allergic rhinitis group(AR group)and nonallergic rhinitis group(NAR group),based on the presence of sinus involvement,and subcategorized into four subgroups:allergic rhinitis without sinusitis group(ARsSI),allergic rhinitis with sinusitis group(ARwSI),non-allergic rhinitis without sinusitis group(NARsSI),and non-allergic rhinitis with sinusitis group(NARwSI)and twenty-five normal volunteers were recruited in Beijing You'an Hospital from March 2021 to March 2024.FnNO and FeNO levels were measured,nasal symptom VAS scores and cough symptom scores were also performed.Nasal endoscopy and sinus CT scans were used to evaluate the nasal and sinus inflammation.RESULTS Both FnNO and FeNO levels were significantly different between ARsSI and AR wSI,NARsSI and NARwSI(P<0.05).Therefore,when UACS patients were comorbid with sinusitis,the levels of FnNO and FeNO decreased;Significant differences were found between the AR and NAR groups compared to Controls(P<0.001),consequently,when UACS patients were comorbid with AR,FnNO and FeNO levels increased significantly.Moreover,compared to NAR group,AR group had significantly higher VAS scores in nasal pruritus,rhinorrhea,sneezing,post-nasal drip and cough scores,as well as higher sinus CT scores,with the exception of nasal congestion and endoscopy scores.Cough scores had a clear positive correlation with FeNO levels in the AR group(r=0.300,P=0.029)and a weak positive correlation with post-nasal drip in the ARwSI group.There was no correlation between cough scores and nasal symptoms and FnNO and FeNO levels in the NARsSI and NARwSI group.CONCLUSION The combined measurement of FnNO and FeNO can reflect the levels of nasal-sinonasal and airway inflammation and be used as method to diagnose UACS to differentiate from other upper airway diseases.Cough scores of UACS patients are associated with FeNO levels and post-nasal drip of AR patients.关键词
