Demonstration and Extension Effectiveness of Zinc-rich Potatoes in the Dryland Region of Gansu-A Case Study Based on Smallholder Farmer Pilots

Abstract
Since the implementation of the pilot project of"Gansu Zinc-rich Potato Smallholder Farmers,"leveraging on local natural climatic conditions and technological advantages,zinc-rich potatoes,a high-quality nutrition-oriented agricultural product,have served as an entry point and have achieved remarkable effectiveness in enhancing product value,improving population nutrition,ensuring food security,and promoting sustainable agricultural development.This paper provides an overview of the accomplishments realized following the project's initiation,encompassing the establishment of a zinc-rich potato cultivation technology framework,the dissemination of a regional technological paradigm,the advancement of the zinc-rich potato value chain,and the conduct of nutritional education.It further analyzes key experiences and approaches,including the careful organization and development of a professionally diverse and highly skilled team,the establishment of an innovation-oriented and collaboratively advanced working mechanism,and the adoption of up-to-date,standardized,and efficient coordination measures to ensure effective implementation.Based on these findings,the study proposes measures to promote the development of the zinc-rich potato industry in Gansu,such as fully exploiting climatic resource advantages and innovating varieties and key technologies,strengthening standardized production to improve product quality and organizational capacity,building a high-end brand portfolio to expand market channels and realize premium pricing for high-quality products,and deepening nutrition research and education to improve the nutritional and health status of rural residents.Prospects for the future development of the zinc-rich potato industry in Gansu are also discussed.关键词
