Abstract

An exploration of a"quasi-natural"ecological planting mode was conducted in the core production area of white-striped Codonopsis in the semi-arid areas of central Gansu to address bottleneck issues such as root diseases caused by continuous cropping.In this experiment,Codonopsis pilosula was intercropped with locally dominant crops,including faba bean,potato,maize,and sorghum,to analyze the effect of intercropping on disease incidence,premium-grade product rate,yield,and planting benefit.Results showed that intercropping could effectively reduce the incidence of Codonopsis pilosula root diseases in continuously cropped soil.Among the treatments,the regreening rate of Codonopsis pilosula seedlings intercropped with sorghum reached 93.33%.After intercropping with faba bean,the field seedling survival rate after transplanting was 68.06%,which was significantly higher than that of Codonopsis pilosula monoculture under continuous cropping,and both yield and premium-grade product rate were significantly improved.Compared with monoculture,intercropping with faba bean and sorghum resulted in a slight reduction in yield but an increase in output value.Therefore,considering the positive effects of Codonopsis pilosula‖faba bean intercropping technology on improving the quality of root appearance,this technology is suitable for promoting in alpine Eryin genuine production areas of Codonopsis pilosula.
