Millennium,Ruin,and Generation Z's Disjunctive Sensibility:Aesthetic Allegory of Chinese Dreamcore

Abstract
Chinese dreamcore is a nostalgic aesthetic style that emerged on social media,driven by the millennial retro wave of the late 2010s and early 2020s,functioning as a layered text of memory.It con-structs a narrative of failed time travel,suggesting a perception of time in which the past and present exist in parallel.Building on the dreamcore aesthetic and its established use of liminal space,millennial memories are metaphorically reframed through Benjamin's concept of the"ruin".Ultimately,dreamcore becomes an Benjaminian allegory of a transitional era,formed through a nostalgic self-reflection and the reconstruction of meaning.Aesthetically,it captures the moment when Generation Z's fantasy of returning to the past col-lapses—expressing a retrospective stance that carries their desire to rediscover a more compassionate social order and reveals a fundamental epistemological shift.关键词
