Experimental research on seismic performance of concrete frame with composite functional dampers

Abstract
To address the limitation of conventional dampers lacking self-centering capability,a composite functional damper(CFD)that integrates load-bearing,energy dissipation,and self-centering functions was proposed.The mechanical performance tests were conducted to investigate the load-bearing,energy-dissipation,and self-centering characteristics.Combined with an adjustable articulated reinforcement system,it was applied to improve the seismic resilience of existing reinforced concrete(RC)frame structures.Three reinforced concrete frame structure specimens were designed and manufactured:an unreinforced frame,a viscous damper-reinforced frame,and a composite-function damper-reinforced frame.In all cases,the dampers were connected to the RC frames through an adjustable articulated reinforcement system.The seismic performance of the three specimens was investigated by pseudo-static tests.The test results show that in the two frames reinforced with dampers,the adjustable articulated reinforcement system does not experience any damage,such as fractures or deformations,during the test.The bearing capacity and ductility coefficient of the frame are enhanced by using the composite functional dampers compared with the unreinforced frame and the frame reinforced with conventional viscous dampers.The decline rate of bearing capacity after earthquake damage is significantly reduced,and the bearing capacity decreases by 3.5%after the top drift angle 1/20.The energy dissipation capacity of the frame reinforced with the composite functional dampers is weaker than that of the frame reinforced with the conventional viscous dampers.However,compared with the unreinforced frame,it still shows a significant improvement.The residual deformation of the frame reinforced by the composite functional dampers is significantly lower compared to that of the unreinforced frame and the frame reinforced by the conventional viscous dampers.关键词
