Experimental study on lateral resistance of steel frame with expanded flange at beam end of poplar LVL wood shear wall embedded

Abstract
To investigate the lateral performance of steel frames with beam-end haunches infilled with poplar laminated veneer lumber(LVL)light wood shear walls,and to reveal the synergistic working mechanism between steel and wood components,five full-scale specimens were designed,including wood shear walls,steel frames,and steel frames infilled with poplar LVL light wood shear walls with and without door openings.Monotonic and low-cycle reversed loading tests were conducted to analyze the failure modes,hysteresis curves,skeleton curves,stiffness degradation,ductility,and energy dissipation capacity of the hybrid structures,thereby clarifying the cooperative working mechanism between the frame and the wood shear walls.The results show that in steel-wood hybrid structures,the wood wall failures are mainly nail connection failures of the sheathing panels and stud uplift,while the steel frame failures are concentrated in the fracture of column base welds.The hysteresis curves exhibit improved fullness and higher peak loads,with the initial stiffness increased by approximately 260%to 299%compared to that of the steel frame.In the early loading stage,the wood walls bore 50%to 67%of the lateral load;after severe damage,the steel frame carried over 90%of the load,indicating that the wood wall acts as the first line of defense and the steel frame as the second,forming a dual lateral force-resisting system.The calculated elastic lateral stiffness values derived from the equivalent tie-rod method and the D-value method show good agreement with the experimental results,with ratios ranging from 1.02 to 1.27.关键词
