The Impact of Modularity on Disruptive Technological Innovation:A Study Based on Innovation Network Embedding

Abstract
In the context of increasingly intense global technological competition,disruptive technological innovation is widely regarded as the optimal pathway for latecomer enterprises to seize market opportunities and has become a core driving force for industrial transformation and economic development.However,the mechanisms through which modularity—as a critical technological architecture and organizational model—influences disruptive technological innovation remain underexplored.This paper constructs a theoretical model of"modular design-innovation network embedding-disruptive technological innovation"with innovation network embedding as a mediating variable.Using co-patenting entities in the artificial intelligence(AI)field as nodes,the study selects 141 AI innovation entities as the research sample and measures the relevant variables.Empirical tests and discussions on the hypotheses regarding the mechanisms of modularity's impact on disruptive technological innovation are conducted.The findings reveal that technological modularity directly and positively promotes disruptive technological innovation and also positively influences it through structural network embedding.Organizational modularity positively promotes disruptive technological innovation and further enhances it through relational network embedding.关键词
