Abstract

Objective To investigate the effectiveness of the BOPPPS teaching model in outpatient teaching clinics for standardized training of general practice residents under a hospital-community integrated care model.Methods A total of 15 general practice residents who received training at the Chongming Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Universi-ty of Medicine&Health Sciences from May 2022 to May 2024 were enrolled.The teaching outpatient clinic was con-ducted in 2-week blocks,and 80 resident-encounter ses-sions were selected.These 80 sessions were randomly as-signed to a control group and an observation group,with 40 sessions in each group.The control group received routine outpatient teaching,whereas the observation group re-ceived outpatient teaching based on the BOPPPS model.Levels of participation,problem-solving autonomy,clini-cal thinking ability,and satisfaction with teaching were compared between the two groups.Results The observa-tion group showed higher scores in classroom participation(4.53±1.42),discussion enthusiasm(4.31±1.63),prob-lem-solving ability(4.32±1.52),and total score(13.14±4.21)than the control group,with significant differences(P<0.05).The observation group also scored higher in self-management(50.16±3.16),utilization of learning re-sources(51.49±2.93),self-control(58.46±3.15),and total self-directed learning score(160.11±9.24),all of which were significantly better than those of the control group(P<0.05).The total score of clinical thinking abili-ty in the observation group(41.18±3.30)was superior to that of the control group(P<0.001).The overall satisfac-tion rate with the teaching outpatient clinic in the observa-tion group was 92.50%(37/40),which was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclu-sion The BOPPPS can effectively enhance learners'par-ticipation,self-directed learning ability,and clinical think-ing,thereby improving the quality of residency training and promoting the comprehensive development of medical students and physicians.
