Perceptions and Barriers in Cancer Pain Management:Findings from a Cross-Sectional Survey of Physicians,Pharmacists,and Nurses in Second-ary General Hospitals in Chongqing

Abstract
Objective:To assess healthcare professionals'knowledge and attitudes toward cancer pain management,as well as their perceived barriers to effective pain control in secondary hospitals,in order to inform targeted strategies for im-provement.Methods:A structured questionnaire was used to conduct a cross-sectional survey,which assessed participants'demographic characteristics,knowledge of and attitudes toward cancer pain management,as well as their perceptions of existing barriers.Results:Of the 180 questionnaires distribu-ted,152 were returned(response rate:84.44%).Following a review for completeness,112 responses were deemed eligible for analysis,with a valid response rate of 73.68%.The sur-vey was conducted across 15 secondary general hospitals in Chongqing.Most respondents(aged≤40 years)were pharma-cists(40.18%),followed by physicians(30.36%)and nurses(29.46%).The overall correct response rate for the atti-tudes toward cancer pain management questionnaire was 90.85%.The knowledge assessment yielded mean correct response rates of 60.86%among physicians,55.38%among pharmacists,and 58.04%among nurses.The median number of cor-rectly answered items was 8.00(6.00,9.25)for physicians,7.00(5.50,9.00)for pharmacists,and 7.00(6.00,9.00)for nurses.The Kruskal-Wallis test revealed no statistically significant difference in knowledge scores among the three professional groups[H(2)=1.624,P=0.444,ε2=0.015].The top five barriers perceived by respondents were:a shortage of personnel specialized in cancer pain management;lack of psychosocial support services;insufficient training in cancer pain management;patients'lack of knowledge about cancer pain;and the inappropriate use of analgesics.Conclu-sion:Healthcare professionals'knowledge of cancer pain management remains inadequate.To address the identified barri-ers,it is imperative to implement effective educational programs,increase the availability of trained specialists,and establish multidisciplinary collaborative mechanisms.关键词
