The Impact of AI Interviews on Candidates'Deceptive Impression Management

Abstract
This study investigates how AI-enabled interviews versus traditional human interviews af-fect candidates'deceptive impression management.Using a scenario-based experiment with 200 par-ticipants,we find that AI interviews significantly increase candidates'deceptive tendencies.Perceived guilt mediates this effect:AI interviews lower candidates'guilt,which in turn promotes deception.Moreover,anxiety positively moderates this mediation,with highly anxious individuals showing stron-ger deceptive behaviors in AI interview contexts.These findings clarify the mechanisms through which AI-enabled interviews shape candidates'moral emotions and behaviors,offering theoretical and practical insights for organizations adopting AI in recruitment.关键词
