Recent advances in the microbial synthesis of human milk oligosaccharides

Abstract
Human milk oligosaccharides(HMOs)are composed of lactose and four other monosaccharide units arranged in various combinations and are one of the key components in human milk that play an important role in the growth and development of infants.Advances in molecular biology and metabolic engineering have led to substantial progress in the microbial synthesis of HMOs.Nevertheless,the yield of HMOs remains insufficient to meet the demands of research and large-scale applications.This paper briefly introduces the structural composition of HMOs and the current status of microbial synthesis research.It focuses on the design of efficient cell factories based on the structural formulas of HMOs and various metabolic engineering strategies to enhance HMOs production,and also presents an outlook on the future prospects of HMOs biosynthesis.关键词
