Between Integration and Division:The Organizational Evolution of the Unified Leading Organ in the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Soviet Region(1927-1934)

Abstract
The evolution of the organizational system in the the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Revolutionary Base Area profoundly demonstrates the strategic adjustments made by the CPC in integrating revolu-tionary forces across provincial border regions.After the Autumn Harvest Uprising,the plan for upris-ings organized by province initially established regional leading organ.However,the challenges of co-ordination arising from geographical division and blockades by White Areas made it difficult to sustain the goal of"uprisings in central cities".After the Pingjiang Uprising,the Special Committee of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Border Region,established with the support of the fifth army of the Red Ar-my,achieved the organic integration of armed forces and organizations across the three provinces through the synergy of the party organization and the military,facilitating the transition of inter-pro-vincial revolutionary forces toward a unified organization.Nevertheless,this centralized integration faced severe challenges from the Kuomintang's military"encirclement and suppression"campaigns and the"leftist"policies of the CPC Central Committee.The establishment of the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi Provincial Committee in 1931 not only substantively replaced the provincial committees in the White Areas of the three provinces but also constructed a hierarchical organizational network in fragmented regions such as southeast Hubei,Pingxiutong.It established the Southeastern Hubei Prefectural Com-mittee as a mid-level hub and connected to the grassroots through a system of central county commit-tees.This hierarchical leadership structure effectively bridged the organizational gap between the pro-vincial and county levels.The practice of organizational integration in the Hunan-Hubei-Jiangxi So-viet Area demonstrates that the institutional vitality of the CPC's organization lay not only in the integri-ty of its hierarchical structure,but also in its ability to adapt to geographical fragmentation.关键词
