Research Progress on Biomass Cellulose-based Solar Evaporators

Abstract
In recent years,freshwater scarcity has emerged as a critical challenge confronting human society.Solar-driven evaporators for seawater desalination and wastewater treatment have gained increasing attention as a promising research direction.Biomass cellulose-based materials have garnered considerable interest due to their exceptional biocompatibility,renewability,and sustainability.Derived from abundant and widely accessible natural sources,these materials exhibit high photothermal conversion efficiency and excellent thermal insulation properties,fully aligned with the goals of sustainable development.To advance the development of cellulose-based solar evaporators with enhanced efficiency and environmental sustainability,this review systematically evaluates recent progress in the application of biomass cellulose-based materials for solar evaporations.Particular emphasis is placed on substrate materials,including wood,algae,paper-based matrices,cotton fabric,and bamboo-based composites,along with a critical discussion of their practical applications.The findings demonstrate that structural optimization can effectively mitigate thermal losses,enhance the photothermal conversion rate and efficiency of the evaporator,and concurrently confer robust antifouling and salt resistance properties.Furthermore,strategic recommendations are proposed for optimizing substrate materials in biomass cellulose-based solar evaporators,highlighting the importance of improving salt resistance,antifouling capabilities,and antimicrobial properties for next-generation sustainable evaporation technologies.关键词
