Abstract

In order to investigate the diversity of birds and mammals in Urumqi,Xinjiang,from September 2023 to May 2025,88 infrared cameras were set up in four habitats(desert,gobi,forest and bare rock)in Urumqi,and the species diversity of birds and mammals was investigated.A total of 22 species of mammals(4 orders and 13 families)and 41 species of birds(7 orders and 19 families)were recorded,including 1 species of first-class national key protected wildlife and 16 species of second-class national key protected wildlife.According to the investigation,the highest relative abundance index(RAI)of birds and mammals was the red-billed chough(Pyrrhocorax,RAI=0.423)and red deer(Cervus elaphus,RAI=2.087)respectively.The highest grid occu-pancy rate was the Brandt's Mountain Finch(Leucosticte brandti,15.48%)and the red fox(Vulpes vulpes,55.95%)respectively.During the warm season(October-March of the following year),the Shannon-Weiner in-dex and Simpson diversity index of the overall community,as well as the evenness index of mammals,showed significant habitat differences(P<0.05).During the cold season(April-September),the Shannon-Weiner index of birds and the overall community,as well as the Simpson diversity index of birds,showed significant habitat dif-ferences(P<0.05).The Shannon-Weiner index and Simpson diversity index of birds in the desert habitat and the evenness index of mammals in the Gobi habitat showed significant seasonal differences(P<0.05).The in-vestigation shows that Urumqi is rich in birds and mammals.Species diversity is affected by habitat types and sea-sons,which has significant regional ecological protection value.
