Multiple Cultivation Pathways for New Quality Productive Forces in Provincial-Level Regions:From the Perspective of Digital Innovation Ecosystem

Abstract
The digital innovation ecosystem is an essential foundational infrastructure in fostering regional New Quality Productive Forces.This article systematically analyzes the logic of seven elements in the digital innovation ecosystem,which consists of the digital innovation subjects,digital innovation platforms,and digital ecological environments,in terms of their role in nurturing regional New Quality Productive Forces.Using a dynamic Qualitative Comparative Analysis(QCA)approach,based on panel data from 30 provinces(autonomous regions and municipalities)in China spanning from 2013 to 2022,and combined with the theoretical framework,this research analyzes the multiple configurational pathways for cultivating New Quality Productive Forces in provincial-level regions from a temporal-spatial dual-dimensional perspective.Below are the research findings.First,the core actors of digital innovation and the digital innovation environment serve as the foundational elements in cultivating New Quality Productive Forces at the regional level.Second,there are three high-level pathways for cultivating New Quality Productive Forces,which can be summarized as core innovation actors+innovation and focused environment pathway,core innovation actors+innovation ecosystem pathway,and core entities+innovation platforms+ecological environment pathway.Third,there are three constraining pathways for non-high-level New Quality Productive Forces,including core innovation actors+innovation ecosystem constraining pathway,core innovation actors+innovation and focused environment constraining pathway and innovation actors+financial environment constraining pathway.Finally,from a spatial perspective,the case studies explained by New Quality Productive Forces configurations exhibit significant regional disparities.High-level New Quality Productive Forces configurations are predominantly concentrated in eastern developed regions,with central regions increasingly involved in recent years,which presents a ladder-shaped distribution pattern of leading,high-quality,and emerging entities.In contrast,non-high-level configurations are primarily clustered in western and northeastern regions.Further research reveals that,from a temporal perspective,the coherence of high-level New Quality Productive Forces configurational pathways experienced a decline in 2019 due to external environmental shocks.The above research provides insights for regions to cultivate New Quality Productive Forces in accordance with local conditions by utilizing the resources of the digital innovation ecosystem and promoting high-quality economic development.关键词
