Parameter Calibration for Discrete Element Simulation of Chinese Flowering Cabbage Seeds

Abstract

In order to accurately grasp the motion state of Chinese flowering cabbage seeds in the air-aspirated seed-metering device,optimize the design of the internal structure of the seed-metering device and reduce the cost,the physical properties(three-axis dimensions,thousand-grain weight,density),mechanical properties(collision recovery coefficient,static friction coefficient)and repose angle of Chinese flowering cabbage seeds were measured by physical test methods,and the angle of repose was used as the response value to perform the Plackett-Burman significance test,the steepest-climbing test,and the Box-Behnken test by discrete element simulation in turn.The results showed that static friction factor between Chinese flowering cabbage seed,rolling friction factor between Chinese flowering cabbage seed,and rolling friction factor between chinese flowering cabbage seed-ABS plate were the significant factors affecting the resting angle,and the steepest climb test was conducted for the significant parameters to obtain the optimum parameter range.The quadratic regression equation was established for the simulation parameters by Box-Behnken test,and the quadratic regression equation was solved by taking the repose angle in the physical test as the target value to obtain the optimal parameter combinations:Chinese flowering cabbage-Chinese flowering cabbage static friction factor,Chinese flowering cabbage-Chinese flowering cabbage rolling friction factor and Chinese flowering cabbage-ABS plate rolling friction factor were 0.28,0.09 and 0.10,respectively.The optimal parameter combinations were brought into the discrete element simulation software for validation tests,and the obtained discrete element simulation angle of repose and the actual angle of repose error values were 1.78%,1.55%and 0.95%,respectively.Above results showed that the best parameter combinations obtained from the calibration could provide the basis for the discrete element simulation of Chinese flowering cabbage seeds.
