Preparation of chitosan oligosaccharide β-aminobutyric acid derivatives with different degrees of deacetylation and their salt tolerance activity

Abstract
This study investigated the regulatory role of deacetylation degree(DD)on the salt tolerance-inducing potential of chitosan oligosaccharide(COS)-β-aminobutyric acid(BABA)derivatives.COSs with varying DDs were synthesized through controlled acetylation.Subsequently,four distinct COS-BABA derivatives were prepared via a carboxyl-directed coupling strategy.Structural characterization was performed using Fourier Transform Infra-red Spectroscopy and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy.Moreover,the derivatives were used as exogenous inducers applied through seed soaking and root immersion to systematically evaluate the influence of DD on their ability to induce salinity tolerance in wheat grown under salt stress.The derivatives notably enhanced growth per-formance,photosynthetic pigment content,soluble sugar accumulation,and antioxidant enzyme activity in salt-stressed wheat seedlings while maintaining cell membrane integrity,thus synergistically improving salt toler-ance.Notably,DD significantly influenced the salt tolerance-inducing activity,derivative with 92%DD demon-strating optimal efficacy,surpassing both raw COS and BABA treatments.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first systematic analysis to correlate DD with the salt tolerance-inducing ability of COS-BABA derivatives,provid-ing a theoretical foundation for the precise modification of COS molecules and the development of novel plant-based"green"salt-resistance-producing agents.关键词
