Evaluation of Physiological Response to Drought Stress and Drought Tolerance of Five Forage Oat Varieties

Abstract
[Objective]This study aimed to compare the growth conditions and physiological characteris-tics of various oat varieties under controlled drought conditions,providing a theoretical foundation for un-derstanding the physiological mechanisms of drought resistance in oats.[Method]The experiment uti-lized five forage oat materials in a potting water control setup.Measurements were taken for biomass,root morphology,leaf relative water content,leaf relative conductivity,antioxidant enzyme activities,osmo-regulatory substances,and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters at intervals of 0,7,14,and 21 days of drought exposure.[Result]As the duration of stress increased,there was a notable rise in malondialde-hyde content,relative conductivity,and the activities of catalase,peroxidase,and superoxide dis-mutase.Additionally,the root-crown ratio,root length,number of root tips,and root forks significantly increased.Conversely,leaf relative water content,chlorophyll content,maximum photochemical effi-ciency of PSII reaction centers(Fv/Fm),potential photochemical activity of PSII reaction centers(Fv/Fo),and the light absorption performance index(PIabs)were significantly reduced.[Conclusion]The com-prehensive evaluation of drought tolerance revealed that the variety 'gunner' exhibited strong drought tol-erance,whereas '4292' showed weaker tolerance.关键词
