The Effects of Childhood Unpredictability on Impulsive-Compulsive Behaviors and the Mediating Effect of Life History Strategy and the Intolerance of Uncertainty

Abstract
Objective:To examine the impact of childhood unpredictability on impulsive-compulsive behaviors and ex-plore its potential mechanisms.Methods:A total of 3,170 college freshmen completed the childhood trauma questionnaire,childhood unpredictability scale and childhood harshness scale,barratt impulsiveness scale,Chinese version of Buss-Perry aggression questionnaire,obsessive-compulsive inventory-revised,internet addiction test,Arizona life history battery,and intolerance of uncertainty scale.Results:(1)Childhood unpredictability was the strongest predictor of impulsive and com-pulsive behaviors compared to other dimension of childhood adversity;(2)Its effect on impulsive behaviors was significantly greater than that on compulsive behaviors;(3)Life history strategy and intolerance of uncertainty both served as indepen-dent mediators between childhood unpredictability and impulsive-compulsive behaviors.Conclusion:Childhood unpre-dictability is a significant risk factor for impulsive-compulsive behaviors,exerting both direct effects and indirect effects through the independent mediating roles of life history strategy and intolerance of uncertainty.关键词
