摘要

Abstract

Plasma Membrane Intrinsic Proteins(PIPs),as core members of the Aquaporins(AQPs)family and key channel proteins localized to the plasma membrane,not only efficiently mediate the transmembrane transport of water molecules but also participate in the transport of various neutral small molecules(such as glycerol,H2O2,etc.)and ions(such as K+,Na+,etc.).By precisely regulating the dynamic equilibrium of water,solutes,and signaling molecules in-side and outside the cell,PIPs play a central role in numerous physiological processes including plant root water absorp-tion,cell elongation,organ morphogenesis,flowering time regulation,photosynthetic efficiency,and responses to biotic and abiotic stresses.Significant progress has been made in PIP research in recent years.This article systematically reviews new functions and mechanisms of the PIP gene family in protein structural characteristics,regulation of plant growth and develop-ment,and stress tolerance under adverse conditions,as well as the latest research advances in its multi-tiered regulatory networks.It also discusses the application potential of PIP gene family in crop improvement,providing an important the-oretical basis and genetic resources for sustainable agricultural development under global climate change challenges.
