Expert Consensus on Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Chikungunya Fever in Children

Abstract
Chikungunya fever(CHIKF)is an acute infectious disease caused by the Chikungunya virus via the mosquito vector Aedes.Its clinical manifestations are characterized by the typical triad of fever,rash,and severe arthralgia,while pediatric cases present distinct features from adults.Pediatric CHIKF(especially in young children)is associated with mild or absent articular symptoms,requiring particular attention to differential diagnosis from dengue fever and other rash and fever illnesses.Young children are a key focus and high-risk group for severe CHIKF cases,necessitating early identification of severe manifestations.Children post-infection exhibit lower antibody seroconversion rates than adults,limiting the diagnostic value of serum antibodies;thus,the nucleic acid test is recommended as the preferred diagnostic method.Currently,there are no specific antiviral medicines or vaccines for the Chikungunya virus in China.Treatment strategies mainly rely on symptomatic supportive therapy and comprehensive management,while Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome differentiation and treatment also serve as an effective measure.To standardize the clinical diagnosis,treatment,and management of pediatric CHIKF,the Group of Infection,Committee on Children's Health and Medicine Research,China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine organized experts in related fields to formulate the Expert Consensus on Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Chikungunya Fever in Children.This consensus elaborates on the epidemiology,pathogenesis,manifestations and differential diagnosis of pediatric cases,laboratory examinations,traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment recommendations,as well as prevention and control of CHIKF,aiming to provide a reference for clinical practice.关键词
