Progress in kidney‑tonifying and liver‑regulating traditional Chinese medicines for Parkinson's disease via regulating mitophagy

Abstract
Abnormal mitophagy is closely associated with the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)pathogenesis of"liver-kidney deficiency"in Parkinson's disease(PD)and serves as a key link in the onset and progression of the disease.This review summarizes the research progress of kidney-tonifying and liver-regulating TCMs in treating PD by regulating mitophagy.Both active components and compound preparations of kidney-tonifying and liver-regulating TCMs show consistent efficacy in improving motor and non-motor symptoms of PD through mitophagy regulation.Their core mechanisms primarily focus on the serine/threonine-protein kinase 1(PINK1)/E3 ubiquitin ligase(Parkin)pathway,exerting neuroprotective effects by promoting or inhibiting mitophagy.Additionally,they can regulate mitophagy via receptor-mediated pathways or the sirtuin 1(SIRT1)/forkhead box O(FoxO)pathway.Targeting mitophagy is expected to clarify the modern biological connotations of kidney-tonifying and liver-regulating TCMs in PD treatment.关键词
