Abstract

Oxidative stress in poultry is a pathological state caused by adverse factors such as high temperature and mycotoxins,which produces excessive reactive oxygen species(ROS)and reactive nitrogen species(RNS)in the body and exceeds the scavenging capacity of the antioxidant system.Oxidative stress can lead to DNA,protein and lipid damage in poultry,and seriously affect the health and production performance of poultry.Ilex asprella is rich in a variety of active compounds with anti-inflammatory,antibacterial,antiviral and antioxidant effects.Previously,the potential of Ilex asprella to alleviate oxidative stress in poultry has not been fully valued.Therefore,from the perspective of antioxidant activity of active components(including triterpenoids and their saponins,phenolic acids and polysaccharides)and antioxidant pathway of Ilex asprella,this paper reveals that the active components of Ilex asprella have great antioxidant potential,which mainly play antioxidant role through two pathways:direct scavenging of free radicals and regulation of Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway.In addition,this paper proposed that in the future,the application research of Ilex asprella could focus on the dose effect relationship and the development of compound preparations.This paper provides a theoretical basis for promoting the application of Ilex asprella as a natural antioxidant feed additive in poultry oxidative stress.
